Early registration starts Jan. 26; OSYs encouraged to go back to school

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Jan. 25 (PIA6) – School officials called on Capiceños to help in the national early school registration campaign.

Roxas City Department of Education Schools Division Superintendent Miguel Mac Aposin urged the parents to enroll their children who are incoming kindergarten, Grade I or Grade VII students by the opening of school year 2013-2014 in June.

He added that parents should also encourage their children, particularly the out-of-school, to be back to school and finish their education.

Aposin said that the DepEd move for an early registration, which will start on Saturday, January 26, is to determine the number of incoming students and the needed additional school facilities such as classrooms, chairs, text books and school building, among others.

“We also appeal for the support and help of the barangay officials in this campaign, knowing they have the direct information in the respective communities about the children who must be in school,” he stressed.

On the other hand, Capiz Schools Division Superintendent Eveleth Gamboa disclosed that she had already made a directive to all the district supervisors and school principals in the elementary and secondary schools in the entire province to be prepared for the start of the early registration.

Gamboa said that all schools will be open on Saturday and the registration will continue to ensure that all children who are supposed to be in-school are enrolled.

I also directed our school officials and teachers to conduct barangay-based campaign and coordinate the thrust with the barangay officials in their respective localities,” she stressed. ( PIA/JBGuillermo)

5 Capiz studes get science HS scholarship

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Jan. 22 (PIA6) – Five incoming high school students in Capiz will be given the chance to avail of the government scholarship program.

This, after elementary graduating pupils from the different schools here passed the national competitive examination last year.

The examination passers will be given the opportunity to become government scholars who will be molded and trained in the Philippine Science High Schools, particularly on areas of science and mathematics.

Information Officer Juafe Abariles of the Department of Science and Technology-Capiz provincial office disclosed that among the Capiceños who passed the said tilt include Jem Patrice Alfonso and Jean Dorothy Andrada of Capiz Commercial School, Aldrean Paul Alogon of Sigma Central Elementary School, Ashley Marie Bargas of St. Mary’s Academy of Capiz and LJ Jesse Macadangdang of Dao Central School.

Abariles said that of the 1,143 passers for the 2013 Philippine Science High School (PSHS) national competitive examination held last September 29 last year, 98 of them came from Western Visayas and 18 of whom are Diliman Campus passers.

Since there are only 90 slots that are available for the region while there are 98 passers, the enrollment will be done on a first-come, first-served basis,” she said, adding that confirmation of acceptance of the scholarship could be done personally or by mail, courier, facsimile, or phone, on or before January 31, 2013.

She said that among the privileges of a scholar in said program include free tuition fees, free loan of text books, monthly stipend, uniform, transportation and living allowances for low income groups.

Abariles stressed that those Grade 6 pupils who took the PSHS national competitive examination belong to the upper 10% of the batch and do not have a grade below 80 as certified by the School Principal, a Filipino citizen with no pending application as immigrant to any foreign country, born on or after June 1, 1998, in good health and fit to undergo a rigorous academic program, and of good conduct and behavior.

The PSHS was established by Republic Act 3661 and is mandated to offer a free scholarship basic secondary course with emphasis on subjects pertaining to service with the end in view of preparing its students for a science career.

Its curriculum emphasizes on science and mathematics and the development of well-rounded individuals as it prepares students for a career that contributes to nation building by helping the country attain a critical mass of professionals and leaders in science and technology. 300 Capiz studes aspire for DOST scholarship

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Dec. 7 (PIA6) -- Nearly 300 Capiceño high school students are aspiring to be included in the government scholarship program for next school year.

Information Officer Juafe Abariles of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Capiz disclosed that a total of 283 graduating high school students were able to take the scholarship examination last month in Roxas city.

She revealed that of the 296 scholarship applicants, only 286 were able to take the said DOST- Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Undergraduate Scholarship Program for 2013.

Abariles explained that the scholarship program of DOST is open yearly to talented and deserving students who wish to pursue four or five-year baccalaureate courses in priority science and technology fields.

She said the program is contained in Republic Act 7687 Scholarship which aims to produce and develop high quality human resources who will man the Science and Technology (S&T) and Research Development (R&D) efforts in the country.

Qualifiers, she said, can enroll in state universities and other higher education institutions recognized by theCommission on Higher Education as Centers of Excellence or Centers of Development.

Students who will qualify in DOST’s scholarship grant will be provided subsidies on tuition fee and other school fees as well as book allowance, monthly living allowance for a 10 to 11 months duration every year and more, Abariles said.

According to her, this scholarship is their agency’s commitment to uphold the pledge of President Benigno S. Aquino III to support the expansion of scholarships granted to outstanding yet underprivileged students.

On the other hand, Abariles said that during the examination here, 32 children of Capiceño Overseas Filipino Workers likewise took the examination for the scholarship grant offered by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration to children of OFWs. (JCM/Jemin B. Guillermo-PIA6, Capiz)

BSP intensifies advocacy campaign

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Nov. 1 (PIA6) – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) continues to intensify its education campaign about the different functions of the agency.

Capiz BSP Information Officer Andrew June Ligad said that they are conducting orientation in the different schools and offices in Capiz particularly on the distinct security features about the new BSP bank notes as well as on coin circulation program.

He said that included among the schools they have conducted said information and education activity were the Capiz State University, Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion, Filamer Christian University, College of Saint John and schools in Sigma and Ivisan towns.

Ligad stressed that part of their advocacy focuses on the BSP clean note policy as well as on the new generation Philippine currency.

Many do not have the idea of the three pillars of central banking such as on price and financial stability as well as on efficient payments and settlements system.” He said.

On the clean notes policy, Ligad reminded the public that Presidential Decree No. 247 clearly prohibits the defacement, mutilation, burning or destruction of the country’s legal tender such as the bank notes and coins.

Writing on the bank notes is prohibited under the law,” he said, urging the public to be fully aware of said policy.

Ligad also emphasized that in order to avoid the circulation of counterfeit or fake money, the public must also be aware about the characteristics, designs and security features of the new generation banknotes.

On the other hand, he assured the public of sufficient supply of coins in the country and in Capiz, in particular.

He said that the problem is not on the supply of coins but on the circulation of said legal tender, hence, he appealed for everyone’s cooperation for the efficient recirculation of coins. (JCM/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)

Capiz has 762 certified skilled workers

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Sept. 21 (PIA6) – A total of 762 assessed candidates passed the National TVET Competency Assessment and Certification (NATCAC) in Capiz from March 2011 to September this year. However, this figure may increase as another NATCAC is scheduled in the province from October 15 to 26, said Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) – Capiz Public Information Officer Julie Baraquia. “There are 400 NATCAC passers given last August and early this month,” she noted. The successful candidates received a Certificate of Competency (COC) or National Certificate Level II from TESDA for their respective qualifications. Certified tech-voc holders can use the COC in applying for jobs in fields that are highly in demand in the country or abroad. NATCAC is aimed to increase the number of certified Filipino workers and TVET graduates in the TESDA national registry of skilled workers. The assessment and certification is free and open to all graduating students and graduates of technical vocational courses, skilled workers, and returning Overseas Filipino Workers. (JCM/Alex A. 2 Capiz schools top WV Brigada Eskwela tilt

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Sept. 10 (PIA6) – Two public schools in Capiz bagged this year’s Western Visayas Search for Brigada Eskwela Best Implementers.

Capiz Schools Division Superintendent Eveleth Gamboa said that Panitan National High School and Antonio Belo Elementary School in Timpas, Panitan, Capiz were declared champion for the big schools- secondary level and small schools-elementary level category, respectively.

The two said schools are also Hall of Fame awardees for the said competition in Western Visayas for winning the first place for three consecutive years already, she said

She added that the Capiz National High School ranked also third in the same competition this year for the Exceptional Secondary Schools category.

Gamboa revealed that Cabug-Cabug National High School in President Roxas, Dao Central Elementary School in Dao, Capiz and Ivisan Central Elementary School in Ivisan town were also adjudged as fourth place winners for the small secondary schools, big elementary schools and exceptional elementary schools category, respectively.

According to her, the first and second place winners in the regional competition will be validated by the Adopt-A-School Program /Basic Education Central Office Personnel in October in preparation for the declaration for national champions.

On the other hand, Panitan National High School Brigada Eskwela Coordinator Edwin Daliva said that their winning in the said search for three consecutive years now has is an inspiration for the faculty, students, parents and their entire community to work further and sustain the program that will redound to the benefit of their populace.

Daliva said that the holding of the Brigada Eskwela in preparation for the opening of classes has become an instrument in strengthening their networks and partnership with the other government agencies, private individuals, businessmen and other organizations.

Brigada Eskwela mobilizes parents, teachers, students, civic and business groups, local government units, non-government units and other community residents in repairing and sprucing up schools two weeks before the opening of classes last June.

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Sept. 3 (PIA6) – Vice governors in the Philippines recently concluded the two and a half years of education in the graduate school to upgrade their knowledge on further improving the delivery of services to the public through effective and efficient local governance.

The scholarship grant for the vice governors , which was sponsored by Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, was with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), Graduate School of Public and Development Management.

Among the 58 vice governors and four other staff who were enrolled on a special course on Local Governance and Development, Capiz Vice Governor Esteban Evan B. Contreras II bagged a bronze medal after academically excelling in the graduate school.

Contreras, who graduated last August 29 landed as third honors in the class, receiving a bronze medal during the graduation rites and awarding of diploma and recognition.

He said that their enrolment in the graduate school, which runs for two and a half years of study, is part of the programs of the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines.

He added that their learning in the DAP provided them with the knowledge and ideas in the operation as well as running the local government units, particularly instituting management styles in governance aside from professional advancement.

We are grateful to Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile for sponsoring the scholarship grant for the vice mayors at the DAP,” he stressed.

Contreras revealed that among those who joined their graduation ceremony were DAP President Antonio Kalaw, Jr., Senior Vice President and Dean of the Graduate School of Public and Development Management Gloria Jumamil Mercado, Managing Director Rodney Jagolino of Institute of Public Management.

He said that Cagayan 1st District Representative Juan “Jack” Enrile, Jr. who is also representing the Scholarship Benefactor of the Local Governance and Development Program for the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines was the guest of honor while Senate President Enrile also delivered his inspirational message.
