ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Jan. 22 (PIA6) – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) in Capiz reported that no tetanus case has been recorded from the 20 victims of firecracker – related injuries as the tetanus watch ended Jan. 21.
Tetanus monitoring in the province started last Dec. 21 to heighten awareness of the Capiceños on the possible threats posed by firecracker wounds or cuts which may serve as entry points for tetanus – causing bacteria.
Capiz Health Education and Promotion Officer Joeffry Espiritu stressed that victims of firecracker – related injuries are now safe from tetanus.
Espiritu has also thanked the PHO’s partners in the implementation of intensified “Aksyon: Paputok Injury Reduction” (APIR) campaign during the Holiday celebrations.
“Because of their support, firecracker – related injuries in the province decreased,” Espiritu noted referring to Municipal Health Officers, Philippine National Police, Department of Trade and Industry, Bureau of Fire Protection and local tri-media practitioners, among others.
Based on PHO records, there is also no watusi ingestion and victims of indiscriminate firing during the Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations. (JCM/Alex A. Lumaque/PIA 6 Capiz)
