ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Nov. 20 (PIA6) – About 6,000 mosquito ovilarvicidal (OL) trap on public elementary and secondary schools were delivered by Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Capiz in various public elementary and secondary schools as of Nov. 15.
Based on records, about 3,000 classrooms were covered by the initial roll out of OL traps in public schools provincewide.
The beneficiaries of the anti-dengue kits were public elementary schools of Cuartero, Dao, Dumalag, Dumarao, Ivisan, Jamindan, Maayon, Mambusao West, Panay, Pilar, Pontevedra, President Roxas, Sigma and Tapaz.
National High Schools (NHS) in Ivisan, Mambusao East, Pilar, Sigma and Tapaz East were among the initial beneficiaries of OL traps from among 18 public secondary schools in the province.
“All rooms including comfort rooms, canteens and libraries of all public schools in the province will have OL trap kits,” said a DOST – Capiz briefer.
A trainers’ training on roll-out of mosquito OL trap on public elementary and secondary schools in the municipalities was conducted by the DOST and Department of Health (DOH) prior to the roll out of the kits.
The same activity was also conducted for Roxas City public schools last September.
OL trap, a system developed by DOST, is composed of a black container, small strip of plywood for mosquito to lay their eggs on and a larvicide solution to kill the mosquito larvae that will hatch in the strip of wood and in the solution. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
