ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Sept 25 (PIA6) -- The Office of the Fire Marshal of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here happily announced that no big fire incidents were recorded by the firemen since January this year.

This was conveyed by BFP – Roxas City head Senior Inspector Lester Kenneth Gimotea during a recent interaction with media practitioners.

The accomplishment is attributed by the BFP official on the on-going fire safety campaign in schools and inspection of boarding houses, apartments and dormitories as part of Oplan Balik Eskwela (OBE) campaign.

The inspection is also complemented, in some cases, by the conduct of fire drills in communities, schools and government offices.

During the National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM) celebration, the BFP was also an active partner of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) on the various lectures and simulation exercises on emergency situations.

The BFP has also recently availed of a weekly block-time program over a local radio station which educates listeners on how to prevent fire incidents as well as what to do in case of conflagration.

“We are happy the media entities are supportive to the BFP,” added Gimotea.

The BFP official also thanked Roxas City mayor Angel Alan Celino and Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Police Matter lawyer Powell del Rosario for the various firefighting and rescue equipments that will further boost the local campaign on zero fire occurrence.

These equipments, that include rescue cans, raincoats, flashlights, 200-meter rope, first aid kits, search lights, pulleys, carabiners, grigri, anchor plate, seat harness, spine boards and cervical collars, will be used for the training of the Barangay Emergency Response Teams (BERT).

The 5-day BERT training for the initial six city coastal barangays kicked off last Sept. 24 at Brgy. Baybay.
BERT were organized by the city government to address the need for prompt response during emergencies at the grassroots level. (JSC/Alex A. Lumaque-PIA 6 CAPIZ)
