ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Oct. 11 (PIA6) – One hundred thirty eight social pensioners here will receive their third quarter pension anytime this week.
This was conveyed by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – Field Office 6 Public Information Officer Eliseo Abucay in the Oct. 10 meeting of the members of Capiz Association of Government Public Information Officers, Inc. (CAGPIO).
“All government social pensioners in the municipalities have already received their P1,500 social pension for the July, August and September period,” Abucay stressed.
Capiz has a total of 1,699 qualified pensioners since 2011.
Eligible senior citizens for the program are 77 years old and above, frail, sick or with disability, and without pension or permanent source of income or regular support from relatives to meet their basic needs.
He added that the social pension for the last quarter of 2012 will be released in December.
The program aims to alleviate poverty and support the elderly Filipino citizens as part of President Benigno Aquino III’s social contract as well as commitment to the Millennium Development Goals.
Pensioners will receive a monthly stipend of P500 on a quarterly basis as mandated in the Republic Act No. 9994 or the "Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.” (JCM/Alex A. Lumaque/PIA 6 Capiz)
