ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Oct. 25 (PIA6) – A carabao will be slaughtered by a local Muslim community for a get together (salo-salo) after an early morning prayer on Oct. 26 at a mosque in Barangay Tanque here in view of this year’s Eidul Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).

Norayda Malawi, a bona fide member of the community and Planning Officer of the Department of Education (DepEd) – Roxas City Division, said that about 100 Muslim families are expected to attend the prayer and partake the foods in one of the most revered festivals of the Islamic community.

The Muslim community is being led by its President Gambai Palao.

She added that a sermon during the gathering will focus on the commemoration of Ibrahim's (Abraham's) willingness to sacrifice his eldest son Ishmael in obedience to a command from Allah as well as Ishmael's acceptance of this command.

Allah is a word for God used in the context of Islam.

In view of the celebration, President Benigno S. Aquino III has declared Oct. 26 through Presidential Proclamation No. 488 as a regular holiday throughout the country.
“The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) recommended that the observance of Eidul Adha be on 26 October 2012 and the Eidul Adha prayer be performed on the final declaration of the Saudi Government,” said part of the proclamation issued by Malacañang last Oct. 9.
The Feast of Sacrifice or Day of Sacrifice is observed after the Hajj -- the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia,
The members of the local Muslim community also celebrated Eidul Fitr (Feast of Ramadan) last August. (JCM/Alex A. Lumaque/PIA 6 Capiz)
