ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Nov. 1 (PIA6) – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) continues to intensify its education campaign about the different functions of the agency.
Capiz BSP Information Officer Andrew June Ligad said that they are conducting orientation in the different schools and offices in Capiz particularly on the distinct security features about the new BSP bank notes as well as on coin circulation program.
He said that included among the schools they have conducted said information and education activity were the Capiz State University, Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion, Filamer Christian University, College of Saint John and schools in Sigma and Ivisan towns.
Ligad stressed that part of their advocacy focuses on the BSP clean note policy as well as on the new generation Philippine currency.
“Many do not have the idea of the three pillars of central banking such as on price and financial stability as well as on efficient payments and settlements system.” He said.
On the clean notes policy, Ligad reminded the public that Presidential Decree No. 247 clearly prohibits the defacement, mutilation, burning or destruction of the country’s legal tender such as the bank notes and coins.
“Writing on the bank notes is prohibited under the law,” he said, urging the public to be fully aware of said policy.
Ligad also emphasized that in order to avoid the circulation of counterfeit or fake money, the public must also be aware about the characteristics, designs and security features of the new generation banknotes.
On the other hand, he assured the public of sufficient supply of coins in the country and in Capiz, in particular.
He said that the problem is not on the supply of coins but on the circulation of said legal tender, hence, he appealed for everyone’s cooperation for the efficient recirculation of coins. (JCM/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)
