ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Oct. 30 (PIA6) – The Office of the Fire Marshal of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Roxas City has called on Capiceños to take extra precautions on using candles this All Souls as well as All Saints Day celebration.
“Candles are not toys for children and must not be left burning unattended,” said BFP – Roxas Public Information Officer FO2 Marlon Garbo.
Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets and never burn a candle on or near anything that might catch fire like books, curtains, gasoline, he added.
It is also important to place the candleholder on a stable and heat-resistant surface to a similar fire incident which razed a house in Brgy. Talon here a few years ago.
Garbo stressed that the firemen will also conduct surprise inspections on terminals, airport, funeral homes and other public places in addition to fire truck visibility activity as part of the firemen’s proactive measures to ensure a fire-free Halloween celebration.
A fire truck with Public Address System has been deployed around the city giving announcement on fire safety reminders since Oct. 29.
“BFP is not only about firefighting but we are also mandated to render emergency medical services to save lives,” he stressed, adding that an Emergency Medical Service (EMS) staff will be positioned by the BFP at Barangay Banica Cemetery starting Oct. 31.
The EMS team is composed of eight firemen who are also registered nurses and physical therapists by profession who will respond to the public’s emergency health needs at the cemetery. (JCM/Alex A. Lumaque/PIA6 Capiz)
