ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Sept. 3 (PIA6) – Vice governors in the Philippines recently concluded the two and a half years of education in the graduate school to upgrade their knowledge on further improving the delivery of services to the public through effective and efficient local governance.
The scholarship grant for the vice governors , which was sponsored by Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, was with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), Graduate School of Public and Development Management.
Among the 58 vice governors and four other staff who were enrolled on a special course on Local Governance and Development, Capiz Vice Governor Esteban Evan B. Contreras II bagged a bronze medal after academically excelling in the graduate school.
Contreras, who graduated last August 29 landed as third honors in the class, receiving a bronze medal during the graduation rites and awarding of diploma and recognition.
He said that their enrolment in the graduate school, which runs for two and a half years of study, is part of the programs of the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines.
He added that their learning in the DAP provided them with the knowledge and ideas in the operation as well as running the local government units, particularly instituting management styles in governance aside from professional advancement.
“We are grateful to Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile for sponsoring the scholarship grant for the vice mayors at the DAP,” he stressed.
Contreras revealed that among those who joined their graduation ceremony were DAP President Antonio Kalaw, Jr., Senior Vice President and Dean of the Graduate School of Public and Development Management Gloria Jumamil Mercado, Managing Director Rodney Jagolino of Institute of Public Management.
He said that Cagayan 1st District Representative Juan “Jack” Enrile, Jr. who is also representing the Scholarship Benefactor of the Local Governance and Development Program for the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines was the guest of honor while Senate President Enrile also delivered his inspirational message.
Contreras, who is on his second term as vice governor of Capiz, is the LVGP Regional Director for Western Visayas. (JCM/Jemin B. Guillermo/PIA6-Capiz)
