ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Sept. 8 (PIA6) – A letter coding scheme in the inspection and sticker marking on motorcycle helmets is being implemented by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Capiz Provincial Office since Sept. 3 this year.
“Aside from number coding, the inspection will also be conducted based on the initial letter on the surname of helmet owners,” said a DTI advisory in Tagalog.
Surnames which start with letter A to F will be accommodated this month while letters G to O and P to Z are scheduled on October and November, respectively.
“Avoid P1,500.00 penalty from the Land Transportation Office for motorcycle helmets without Philippine Standards (PS) or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers by Jan. 1, 2013,” the advisory added.
Based on the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009, motorcycle drivers and back riders caught not wearing the standard protective motorcycle helmet shall be fined P3,000 for the second offense; P5,000 for the third offense and P10,000 with confiscation of the driver’s license for the fourth and succeeding offenses.
At least 3,263 helmets were marked with PS or ICC seals and 1,705 motorcycle headgears were verified by DTI – Capiz in the on-going verification and marking on motorcycle helmets.
Motorists are advised to bring filled up application from the DTI and helmet when scheduled for inspection and PS or ICC marking.
Also required during the application are government issued identification like driver’s license, Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) license, postal ID and voter’s ID as well as the official receipt/certificate of registration of motorcycle for number coding. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
