ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Feb. 7 (PIA6) -- About 5,000 propagules or mangrove seedlings have been planted by local broadcast practitioners in the two mangrove tree planting activities dubbed “Broadcastreeing” at Cadimahan River in Brgy. Tanque here.

This was disclosed by outgoing Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) – Capiz chapter chairperson and RMN dyVR station manager Ely Abarra in his report of accomplishments during the KBP – Capiz induction of officers and oath taking of new members last Feb. 2 here.

Abarra, now the KBP Western Visayas regional coordinator, was succeeded by ABS CBN – Roxas City station manager Joanne Del Rosario Dadivas.

Broadcastreeing is a tie-up project of KBP with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to help realize the 2011 to 2016 greening efforts which target to plant about 1.5 billion trees in an estimated 1.5 million hectares of lands in public domain,” he stressed.

Abarra, who had been KBP – Capiz chairperson for about five years, added that the Chapter has also facilitated the relief assistance of Capiceños coursed through the KBP – member stations in the province for typhoon Sendong victims in Central Luzon provinces in 2011.

It was also during the incumbency of Abarra when an announcers’ accreditation examination was facilitated as part of the KBP’s over-all goal to professionalize broadcast practitioners in the country.

Thirty – four Capiceño and six Antiqueño broadcasters passed the Oct. 27, 2012 examination. (JSC/AAL-PIA6 Capiz)
