4,402 run to save lives in Roxas City

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Feb. 13 (PIA6) – A deluge of runners clad in red t-shirts virtually filled a single lane of Arnaldo Boulevard here last Feb. 10 in line with the simultaneous nationwide 2nd Million Volunteer Run.

Based on the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) – Capiz chapter records, a total of 4,402 participants have registered for the three-kilometer run from the public plaza through Arnaldo Boulevard to the People’s Park in Barangay Baybay.

The event dubbed “Run to Save Lives” was highlighted by an exercise at the park through the Department of Health (DOH) regional office – 6 that provided a dance exercise instructor.

PRC – Capiz Blood Service representative Ray Martinez said that P312,960.00 amount that included pledges from various local government units was generated from the activity.

Part of the proceeds of the Run will be used to fund the training program of the 143 volunteers.

PRC has organized Red Cross 143 volunteers, a flagship volunteer program that recruits and trains 44 volunteers in every barangay – one leader and 43 members - on disaster management including disaster risk reduction and disaster response.

A short program to recognize top 10 runners who reached the finish line, sponsors and participants ended the early morning initiative.

Among the participants of the 2nd MVR here were LGUs, schools, media organizations, civic clubs as well as private groups and hospitals.

MVR is way to promote the spirit of volunteerism among participating runners from various cities in the country. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
