Capiz PNP readies for poll gun ban

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Jan. 8 (PIA6) – The Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) is intensifying its information dissemination campaign on the poll gun ban from Jan. 13 to June 12 in view of the 2013 local and national elections.

Capiz police director S/Supt. Domingo S. Cabillan said he is calling for a meeting with Chiefs of Police to brief them about COMELEC resolutions.

He added that he is also making himself available for local media interviews to heighten public awareness about the prohibition in the bearing, carrying or transporting firearms or other deadly weapons to ensure a peaceful and orderly elections in May.

“Toy guns are subject for confiscation because these are replica of actual firearms,” the province’s top cop said.

Based on a COMELEC resolution, only uniformed members of the police, the military and other law enforcement agencies including the Presidential Security Group who are performing actual duties are authorized to bear their weapons during the gun ban period.

Use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidates, unless authorized in writing by the Commission and organization or maintenance of reaction forces, strike forces or other similar forces are prohibited.

The policemen will also conduct checkpoints in various strategic points in the province in view of the gun ban implementation. (JCM/Alex A. Lumaque/PIA 6 Capiz)
