ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Dec. 20 (PIA6) – Town officials of Panay are grateful of the recognition made by the Department of the Interior and Local Government for a job well-done.
Panay town Sangguniang Bayan member lawyer Maria Leobeth Deslate-Delicana who is also Ex-Officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Capiz said that the recognition by the DILG of their town as 1st Runner Up for the Best Performing Municipality-Category A in Western Visayas this year, again showed that the local officials of said town had been continuously working hard to provide the best for the people.
Delicana stressed that aside from the major award, Panay town was also conferred as 1st runner up in the Excellence in Administrative Governance and Excellence in Economic Governance.
Panay was also declared 2ndrunner up in the Excellence in Social Governance and Excellence in Valuing Fundamentals of Governance.
There are 74 towns in Region VI that belong to Category A or the 1st to 3rd class municipality.
Aside from the Excellence in Local Governance Awards, Panay town as also placed 4th among the 117 municipalities in Region Vi in the Gawad Pamana ng Lahi this year, she said.
In 2010, Panay town placed 2ndrunner up in the Excellence in Local Legislation and champion in Excellence in Environmental Management, Delicana said.
She added that last year, town was also declared champion in Excellence in Environmental Management, 1strunner up in Excellence in Local Legislation and 2nd runner up in the Best Performing Municipality in the region.
According to her, the recognition both at the provincial and regional levels in the Excellence in Local Governance Awards (EXCELL), particularly in environmental governance, is a proof of the barangay-based partnership of the town in its effort to protect the environment and natural resources.
Delicana pointed out that the strict enforcement of laws for the protection of mangrove and aquatic resources by barangay captains who are deputized fish wardens have contributed much to their continued recognition not only in Capiz but in the entire Western Visayas.
The Search for EXCELL was conceptualized as a continuing project of DILG 6 for best managed local governments in the region showcasing achievements in governance, administration, social services, economic development and environmental management initiatives. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
