ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Nov. 12 (PIA6) – A differently-abled Capiceña was among the presentors in the country’s regional consultation with stakeholders and Persons With Disabilities (PWD) for regions VI to X last Nov. 7 – 9 in Cebu.
Della Leonor, who is also Institute on Disability and Public Policy (IDPP) for ASEAN region staff and Western Visayas Federatioon of PWDs secretary, presented an overview of the IDPP and Master’s in Comparative and International Disability Policy (CIDP) program to about 60 participants that include PWDs and Provincial as well as City Social Social Welfare and Development Officers.
She also graduated her master’s degree in CIDP as a scholar of IDPP and Nippon Foundation.
“CIDP in collaboration with National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) and other concerned government agencies gave me a chance to impart my knowledge of the Master's Degree to help improved the lives of PWDs,” Leonor noted.
She also shared her first-hand experiences in the program and knowledge and skills gained, including understanding and analyzing public policies related to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
“The 2013 IDPP scholarship on the master’s degree in CIDP is now open,” she stressed, adding that there are also scholarships slots for non-PWDs.
The activity was organized by NCDA to identify issues concerning PWDs and gather recommendations for the development of the Philippine Plan of Action for the Third Asia Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities 2013-2022 based on the Incheon Strategy.
During the activity, NCDA director Carmen Zubiaga explains the importance of PWDs leaders participation in helping the differently-abled individuals.
She also calls for more PWD advocacy efforts.
The regional consultation also revisited the mission and vision of the NCDA as well as tackled legal issues on the welfare of PWD’s and conducted situation analysis of disability prevention, among others. (JCM/Alex A. Lumaque/PIA 6 Capiz)
